TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Two more interviews were conducted back to back Thursday evening for the new Toledo Public Schools interim superintendent.

Dr. Mike Zalar, superintendent of Oregon City Schools, was up first at 5 p.m. Zalar has been with Oregon City Schools since 2003, and superintendent there since 2008.

The second interview was with Douglas Heuer, superintendent of Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools since August of 2009. Heuer has over 20 years of administrative experience, 10 as a superintendent.

On Tuesday, Toledo native Dr. Romules Durant was interviewed. Durant has been an Assistant Superintendent with TPS since 2008.

After the interviews and deliberation, the school board announced they want to call back Durant and Heuer for second interviews, as early as next week.

"Toledo Schools, what they're doing, what they're offering – the work that I've been doing not only in Cleveland Heights-University Heights, but also since studies I've been doing through Harvard University, I just felt this being a compelling place to come, and get involved as part of the team to really make a difference," Heuer said.
