WAUSEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A push to provideresources and aid to victims of domestic violence is underway, and the WauseonPolice Department is getting help from a grant to do it.

Police Chief Keith Torbetsaid it was more than 10 years ago when he noticed something was missing inFulton County.

"We were having 90-95domestic violences a year," Torbet said. "When I looked at the statistics, onlynine out of 90 went to see a victim advocate or got any counseling group."

So Torbet worked with thechief at the time to apply for a grant, and he says they've done the same eversince.

The grant is for more than$59,000 and it fully funds The Center for Child and Family Advocacy, a victimadvocacy group in Wauseon. Its purpose is to help domestic violence victimsconnect with different resources they may need.

Heather Galbraith, avictim advocate, says the center helps 500-600 victims per year.

"[That's 500-600 victimsper year] that would not have gotten this service," she said. "Who knows wherethey would have ended up."

The program is free anddesigned for anyone living in Fulton County.

For the past 2 months we've been tracking the harmful algae bloom on Lake Erie, but in the past 24 hours it has moved into the Maumee River.  Thanks to calm weather this move has been possible. While widespread algae on the river is not likely, scum along the shores is possible through Toledo. The warm weather the next few days means the bloom is likely to continue. Right now the bloom is not an immediate danger to the Toledo water intake.  Credit: Pete Hustwayte ...
