TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man is behind bars after making a false report to Tyler police.

Sergeant Paul Robeson said around 7 p.m. on Friday, Tyler Police Dispatchers received a 911 call reporting that 31-year-old Adam Galaz had observed someone drive by a house and shoot a young girl.  He told dispatchers that the little girl was bleeding and unconscious.

Sergeant Robeson said Tyler police units responded to that location in emergency mode using lights and siren in an attempt to find the injured child.

It was determined that the address given to the dispatcher by Galaz was not the correct address.  Officers looked in the area and went to several houses trying to find the injured child.  Galaz then stated that he was following the suspect vehicle going east on FM 2767.  Officers proceeded to that location as well.

Shortly after that, Galaz stated that the suspect vehicle had crashed.  Officers were not able to locate that vehicle.

At that point, Sergeant Robeson said Galaz's story started the change and nothing added up.

Police were able to locate Galaz at a Tyler home. Robeson said Galaz was sitting the front yard of the property and confessed that he had given a false report to get his girlfriend in trouble.

"This is more than just calling in and hanging up. This was a long conversation on the phone with dispatchers. A situation like this is very rare for us," Sergeant Robeson said.

Because multiple Tyler police units had responded with lights and sirens to what was believed to be a serious offense and it was discovered that he had made up the story; he was then arrested and transported to Smith County Jail for False Alarm and for Public Intoxication.

"It does take us off the streets, prevents us from answering other potential serious calls," Robeson explained.

Robeson said Galaz is no stranger to the Smith County Jail. He has a record dating back to 1999 for public intoxication and burglary of a habitation among other charges.

Galaz remains behind bars on bonds totaling $1,500.
