This stay of unusually warm October weather has a countdown to cool. Highs will stay in the 70s and even reach to just shy of record 80s on Saturday before it all comes to a close. The end of the warmth begins late Sunday evening as showers sweep across the Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. This late weekend system will be just the start to a cooler pattern next week; that will bring our coolest temperatures of the season so far.

RISINGSUN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

As fire ripped through a home in Rising Sun on Tuesday, owner Tiffeny Egbert wasn't there – but her six pit bulls were.

"We were calling to see if there was anybody in there to answer, and we could hear noises and we didn't know what it was," explained Rising Sun Fire Captain Chuck Krotzer. "We knocked down some fire, proceeded to search, and that's when we found the dogs."

The volunteer firefighters carried them out one by one: three adults and three puppies. Two of the puppies were having breathing problems due to the smoke, but they were nursed back to health with the help of a vet and the Humane Society of Sandusky County.
"If it would have been very much longer, it would have been a different outcome," Krotzer said. "I got two dogs of my own at home, and [they're] just like one of the kids."

Three days after the fire, Egbert was reunited with the puppies for the first time, and so were their heroes.

"I can't thank them enough for it," she said. "They did a lot for me, they got all of my babies home safe."
