TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The owners of the Field of Dreams Drive-In Theater, Tiffin, Ohio have upgraded their projection systems from 35mm film after decade of doing it "the old-fashioned way."

The Field of Dreams Theater (Originally the Tiffin Drive-In) was built in 1949 on State Route 53 north of Tiffin.

In 2011, Saunders Theater Properties refurbished the Tiffin Drive-In and re-named the historic property the "Field of Dreams Drive-In Theater." Now, the Saunders family says the transition, from 35mm to digital projection, is best for business and for customers.

"We know our customers will enjoy the upgraded picture and sound quality which compares to indoor theaters," owner Donna Saunders says. "Hopefully, this will translate into continued business growth as our customers bring their friends and family to our drive-in theater more often."

So why transition now? Two reasons. One, digital is cheaper, and movie studios are phasing out production and distribution on 35mm because of it. Also - digital provides better sound and image quality, and on the whole, moviegoers prefer it.

The Field of Dreams Drive-In Theater in Liberty Center will open for the season April 4 -5 with G.I. Joe: Retaliation (PG13) w/ Jack Reacher (PG13) and The Croods (PG) with the second feature to be announced.

Ticket pricing will remain unchanged at both Field of Dreams Drive-In Theater locations -- $7 for teens/adults ages 13-64, $4 for children ages 5-12 and senior citizens over the age of 65.  Children under 5 are always free with an accompanying parent/adult.
