Police find van from stranger danger incident

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo police have tracked down a van they have been looking for in connection to a stranger danger incident in west Toledo earlier this week.

Police have been searching for that van and its driver since Tuesday. They caught up with the van just before 10 a.m. Thursday.

Police pulled over a white, paneled van at Lagrange Street and Manhattan Boulevard in north Toledo. It matched the description and license plate provided by the student who was approached by its driver when she was walking to class at Horizon Science Academy on West Sylvania Avenue in west Toledo. The student told police the man approached her on foot and asked her if she wanted a ride. When she declined, he got into the van and followed her.

The driver of the van was arrested for driving without a valid driver's license.

Police brought the driver downtown for questioning. They reviewed the interview with the prosecutor, who determined more investigation was needed before he could be charged with anything. The driver was released.

More information will be needed to determine if the person driving will face any charges or had anything to do with Tuesday's incident.

Parents at Horizon Academy say they are happy to hear police advancing in the investigation, but these incidents and their frequencies are disturbing.

"These incidents are teenage kids and being that they're - Toledo is one of the gateways for sex trafficking, you know, it makes me concerned that these men - and it's not just one man, it's several men - are trying to take teenagers," said Jennifer Tresnan.
