EDITORIAL: Sequester cuts

The sequester will cut funding to the National Park Service. The sequester will cut funding to the National Park Service.
(Toledo News Now) -

The sequester spending cuts have become a White House political weapon designed to inflict as much pain as possible on Middle America.

Last week it was determined by White House dictate that the best place to cut spending is to close 149 control towers at small, regional airports. And somehow it also makes sense to remove funding to the National Park Service. This means National treasures like Yosemite and Yellowstone will not be in full service during peak family vacation time.

I guess the hope is that we will become so frustrated with long lines at airports and diminished experiences at national parks that we will insist on tax increases. I cannot accept that in the entirety of the bloated Federal Government that the only way to comply with the sequester demands is to inconvenience air travelers and to destroy family vacations.

It is sad that political divide that cleaves this country is being used as an excuse to impose needless misery on us. I doubt that anyone in the White House is giving up anything.

The recent decision of ProMedica's Board of Trustees to enter into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network, Toledo's last remaining abortion facility, just doesn't make sense.
