TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo police are investigating a deadly Wednesday morning shooting near Dorr Street in west Toledo.

According to 911 dispatchers, a shooting was reported at the Westland Gardens Apartments in the 1700 block of Fielding Avenue. Authorities were called around 6:40 a.m. and found what police described as "a bloody mess."

Antonio Watson, 30, of Toledo, was seen lying face down in an apartment. Police say they had to smash a window to get inside.

Watson reportedly had "substantial injuries," and was taken to a Toledo hospital where he later died.

His listed address did not match this apartment complex so police say it is possible Watson was in the area visiting someone.

Police went in and out of the building and spoke with neighbors who say they heard something that sounded like screaming coming from the apartment.

"There's a good chance there was some witnesses probably around during that time that maybe saw somebody coming or going," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan.

One man was taken away in handcuffs, but police say the arrest is not related to this case.

Six police cars and two Scientific Investigations Unit were on the scene. So far police have no suspects. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 419-255-1111.
