FOSTORIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The DARE program at Fostoria Schools could be on thechopping block for next school year.

The DARE program was recently revived at the schooldistrict, with January being the first time the program was seen since 2002, but  police say there's not enough funding to keepit going next year.

Fostoria Police have applied for grant money from theOhio Attorney General's Office to keep the program running. They're hoping toget between $50-70,000. That would allow the program to continue, and both ofthe current resource officers to remain working in the school system.

Police say the program is helping students talk withtheir parents about the problems they're having in school.

"[It helps them] be willing to talk to their parents, ortalk to somebody, if they have problems identifying bullying in schools," saidCaptain Patrick Brooks.

Captain Brooks also said the DARE program is critical tohelping students start a drug-free life.

The department will know about their funding status inthe next few months.
