TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Friends and family came together Monday night to remember Kaitlin Gerber, who was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend Sunday.

Gerber, 20, was shot by her ex-boyfriend Jashua Perz in the parking lot of the Southland Shopping Center. Family members said Gerber had a restraining order against Perz, who had recently been released from jail.

A candlelight vigil was held Monday night in the same parking lot where Gerber lost her life. Community members are hoping to use the tragedy to raise awareness about domestic violence.

"She was real lovable and kind-hearted," said Macie Zeller, who grew up with Gerber. "It just hurts that someone would get taken this way, because nobody deserves this."

Funeral arrangements have not been made for Gerber yet, but the pastor at her church says they are working on setting up a domestic violence foundation in her honor.
