A proposal has been placed before Toledo City Council to build a short extension of Executive Parkway to help with the redevelopment of the former Showcase Cinemas property along Secor Road.

The measure calls for the city to spend $340,000 from its capital improvements fund, to extend the road just east of Secor, to provide additional access to Secor for that site. The money to be spent was collected through a tax increment financing district, which can be used for public infrastructure improvements.

Councilman George Sarantou calls it a perfect use for that money.

"It'll bring jobs to West Toledo," he said. "I'm told the developers have commitments from two hotels as well as develop office space, or restaurant space or some kind of commercial space."

Key Hotels and Property Management is targeting a Hampton Inn and Suites and a Holiday Inn Express for that site. Sarantou also calls it a perfect timing for that work, since Secor Road is being rebuilt between I-475 and Central Avenue.

The measure will be discussed on Tuesday during agenda review.
