At least 12 to retire from Bowling Green Schools

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bowling Green Schools will now be filling even more open positions for next year, as more teachers have been approved for retirement.

At least 12 teachers will be retiring from Bowling Green Schools before next school year. But Superintendent Ann McVey says she expects about this many every year, especially as changes are made to the state teacher retirement system.

There are about 35-40 teachers at BG Schools who are eligible for retirement, and McVey expects more retirements this year.

The district also switched to an online application process that they think attracts a broader base of applicants.

"We seem to attract good candidates," McVey said. "We have an online application system which, you know, the young, new teachers – that's exactly where they're looking."

McVey said she appreciates all the hard work the retiring teachers have done throughout their careers, and the district looks forward to all of the fresh faces that will join the Bowling Green Schools team.
