Commissioners hoping to rearrange parking in downtown Findlay

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Creating new parking lots in downtown Findlay is hard to accomplish, but city and county employees are working together to resolve the issue.

The Hancock County prosecutor and commissioners will be moving into another building in the 500 block of South Main Street, but for that to happen, the employees will need a place to park.

County Commissioners are considering buying a parking lot nearby that is currently owned by the City of Findlay. In exchange, city employees will get parking spots closer to City Hall.

There are a total of 56 spaces, 10 of which will remain reserved for private parking.

The county offered to purchase the lot for $230,000.

Commissioners say the lack of downtown parking has been an ongoing issue and this is the best solution for both parties.

"That has been a complaint with downtown Findlay forever," said Commissioner Brian Robertson. "It's maybe more of a walking problem than a parking problem. The number of lots for the private sector is not going to change."

Any deal reached will still have to be approved by members of city council. Commissioners say that could happen this spring.
