TABC may pull license of ETX sports bar following murder investigation

A Longview sports bar may lose its license as a result of what TABC called "negligence."

In July 2012, police said Sean Drake died at Good Shepherd Medical Center after he was beaten unconscious in an altercation that happened around 2:00 a.m., after closing time outside of The Lodge Sports Bar and Grill, located in the 500 block of McCann Street in Longview.

Officials say the fight started in the bar and then spilled into the parking lot.

Following a TABC investigation, the agency has announced it is seeking a cancellation of The Lodge's liquor license.

Marcus Stokke with TABC said the case can be settled locally or, if the establishment chooses, a hearing may be requested, during which the cancellation of the license will be decided upon in court.

Stokke said it is likely the case will go to court in Dallas or Tyler, though no date has yet been set for the hearing.

"We found them very negligent," Stokke said. He added that The Lodge was negligent by providing a patron over-service, as well as for failing to control a disturbance.

"Had they called t he police...that's all they had to do," Stokke said.

TABC records show The Lodge was fined $1,500 in 2010 for failure to report another fight on their property. Stokke said all disturbances that take place in TABC-licensed establishments are required to be reported within 24 hours.
