Ottawa County begins road safety survey this summer

OTTAWA COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ottawa County is spending about $70,000 this summer to improve the safety of its highways.

Officials are hoping the project will ensure that their speed limits and safety improvements will fall in line with government standards.

The survey project will be checking to see if highway signs are all located in the right places, as well as monitor road conditions to make sure they are up to par. It will also examine which driving speeds are safe on certain curves.

"It's a matter of keeping the roads as safe as possible," said Ottawa County Engineer David Brunkhorst. "Making sure that there's proper signage, and also how the tipping of the road and so forth is, so we know what's going on and we can improve it."

After the surveying is complete, improvements should begin this summer.
