2 Fremont middle schoolers report stranger danger incidents

FREMONT, OH (Toledo News Now) -

According to officials at Fremont City Schools, two middle school students reported being approached by an unidentified male on their way to school Thursday morning.

The students say the subject is described as a light-complected Hispanic male in his mid to late 30s, with a thin build, dark hair and goatee.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark blue or black Ford pickup truck with tinted windows and a matching colored cap.

The Fremont Police Department was notified and patrols were increased near school buildings.

Fremont Police Chief Tim Wiersma confirmed that the incident occurred at 7:33 a.m. The suspect pulled up to the first student and invited her to get in the truck. She walked in front of the truck, across the road to the next corner, and took off.

Two blocks later, Wiersma said the suspect encountered the second student. He opened the door and said, "Get in," but the boy walked to the next corner.

The chief said both students had the same story and description of the suspect. He said he may contact Toledo Police to see if they're dealing with a similar suspect description as in this reported incident.

Read the letter written to parents by Superintendent Traci McCaudy.

Officials say additional safety precautions will be implemented at arrival and dismissal times Thursday and Friday. The students have also been reminded about stranger safety protocols and walking with a friend to school.

Multiple stranger danger incidents have been reported all over northwest Ohio the past two months.
