The North Ridgeville man accused of bringing a backpack full of weapons into the Crocker Park movie theater was sentenced to prison on Thursday.

Scott Smith pleaded guilty to two counts of carrying a concealed weapon. He told Judge Kathleen Sutula that his actions were a "poor decision" and that he "didn't think it through." He also said he brought the weapons for personal protection, not to harm anyone.

Prosecutor Aaron Brockler called Smith a danger to society and urged prison time.

Judge Sutula scolded Smith for not having a permit for his guns, as well as for his actions, citing the need to send a message to others. The judge sentenced Smith to six months in jail.

On August 4, Smith, 38, entered the Regal Cinema as in Westlake carrying a Maxpedition bag, which is commonly used to transport firearms. An off-duty officer inside the theater noticed the suspect carrying the bag and followed him into the I-Max Theater, which was showing the movie Batman.

Once inside the theater, the officer approached Smith and requested to see the bag he had in his possession. A search of Smith's bag revealed a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol, four knives and various medical supplies. Smith was then placed under arrest.

A search warrant was executed at Smith's home, and officers found more weapons, a gas mask, tactical vest and more ammunition.

Smith is married and has a baby daughter.
