Jeep off-road trail a possibility in Toledo?

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Can the path to prosperity in the City of Toledo be found off-road? Discussions are underway to explore the possibility of creating an off-road Jeep trail in Toledo.

Jay Margolies, President of Willys-Overland Motors, says there's a mountain of untapped potential in Toledo's Jeep heritage.

"The people we're dealing with, working with restoring older vehicles, which is a big part of our business, they ask all the time, ‘What can we do in Toledo? We have to have our annual meeting someplace.'"

Margolies takes part in the Future of Toledo think tank meetings, and he hopes the idea of creating a Jeep museum and off-road trail park will gain traction and become a reality.

"Jeep invented off-road," he said. "To have a place where people could go play, have fun, show off, earn bragging rights from their friends would be terrific."

Margolies believes Toledo has the potential to become the destination place for off-road enthusiasts from around the country, and in his opinion there's a perfect location not too far from his store on Reynolds Road.

"There used to be a mall right down the street, Southwyck Mall, just one of many potential sites. There's big open space, hotels around."
