African American Legacy Project prepares Easter event

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Organizers with the African American Legacy Project in Toledo are still in the process of moving into their new home at the corner of Collingwood and Dorr, but they're planning for the first event at that new home on Easter Sunday.

An Easter egg hunt is set for 2-4 p.m., and an Easter Egg Tree was decorated there Wednesday. The tree symbolizes new beginnings and rebirth.

Organizers are hoping to attract up to 500 children, from toddlers up to sixth-graders.

The project's motto is ‘preserving the past, gifting the future,' and by having a place to remember the contributions of others, it's also a chance to connect children with positive role models.

Bernadette Graham says there will be plenty of activities for children at that event.

"Our emerging leaders program, our up-and-coming leaders in the community, very positive role models for the children, we want to establish a relationship with children in the community with our emerging leaders as much as possible," she said.
