Jerusalem Twp. fire chief terminated

Jerusalem Township Trustees voted unanimously to terminate Township Fire Chief Harold Stanton Tuesday.

Chief Stanton has been on leave since March 5. He was placed on leave after being accused of allowing someone who was not a part of the department to fight a fire.

Stanton did not deny a non-township fire department member helped fight a fire, but argued the suspension was unfair because it is difficult to monitor everyone when trying to put out a fire.

According to Stanton, the individual is an ex-fireman for the township.

"Its petty and political," said Kevin Greenfield, Stanton's attorney. "There's no evidence in the hearing that can even support this finding. We will appeal, an appeal will be filed tomorrow. There will be other things we will bring up as well."

A large crowd of Stanton's supporters were also present, and left unhappy with the decision.

"We are losing a huge asset," said Fireman Robert Bonnough. "Not just for the fire department, but the entire township is losing a huge asset."
