City of Toledo plans to renovate water treatment plant

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The city of Toledo is planning for a complete overhaul of the electrical distribution system at the Collins Park water treatment plant.

A $1.8 million spending measure is before City Council, to pay for design work and related engineering services for that project, which is expected to cost anywhere between $9 million and $11 million.

Dave Leffler says parts of the plant's electrical network dates back to 1940.

"The original electrical system is still in use for the most part at Collins Park. With all of the new improvements that are going to be put in place, we needed to update that and bring it up to national code," explained Leffler.

Future renovations are expected to cost around $350 million.

On the average day, it supplies around 70 million gallons of clean water to the city of Toledo and its water customers.
