MEDINA, OH (WOIO) -

Medina firefighters battled an apartment fire early Thursday morning on Birch Hill Drive.

The complex was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 4 a.m.

19 Action News has learned five units were destroyed, and seven others sustained smoke and water damage.

Luckily, no one was injured.

"I was asleep when the police starting pounding on our door," said Amy Zheng. "He told us to get out because the house was on fire, it was scary."

Keith Krawkowski lived on the first floor right below where the fire is suspected of starting.

"The whole floor fell through," Krawkowski said. "We lost it all."

The Red Cross has been called to assist those displaced.

Firefighters are investigating the cause.
