Castalia teen’s body exhumed, parents ask for homicide ruling

SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A local family is fighting to change the ruling of how their son died last year.

Jake Limberios of Castalia was at a friend's house when he sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his head on March 2, 2012. The Sandusky County Coroner ruled the 19-year-old's death as an accidental suicide, but his parents say someone else pulled the trigger.

They hired famed forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht to look into the cause of death, and even had their son's body exhumed.

After taking a tissue sample of the entry area of Limberios' wound, Dr. Wecht ruled there were no signs of gun powder on his skin, proving the shot was fired from a distance – by someone else in the room.

Now Limberios' parents want the ruling overturned and changed to homicide.

"I don't want his daughter to grow up and see her dad's death certificate some day and think that he took his own life," said Limberios' mother Shannon. "I don't believe that for a minute. She deserves better."

Their attorney has filed a motion in civil court, asking the court to change the suicide ruling to homicide, and for prosecutors to re-investigate based on Dr. Wecht's findings.
