Young Catholics are keeping their eyes on the conclave.

Groups of young Catholic students at St. Edward High School want a pope that can connect with young people and make young people come back to the church.

"I think you should definitely be up to date with the 21st century because I know that social media and everything that definitely plays a role in reaching up to the young people," said senior, Spencer Weidig.

The students have had their eyes on the Vatican and not all their thoughts were about young people.

"I think it's very interesting that for the first time there's a high possibility of there being an African Pope," senior, David Laubert said.

In a time where the family dynamic is changing rapidly for a myriad of reasons, a pope can be the face of stability.

"I think the fact the church could be a part of young people's lives is a huge part because it gives them something concrete to hold on to something stable in their lives,"said Frank Dettore-Schenkelberg, senior.

To seniors at St. Ed's the conclave is important. If a relatively young pope is elected, say 60 or so, he could be the leader of the church until they are into their 40's.
