OH company makes major donation to Toledo food bank

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo Northwest Ohio Food Bank received a huge donation Tuesday, thanks to an Ohio-based company.

This month, the Ohio Pork Producers Council is continuing its fight against hunger. On Tuesday, the food bank received 5,000 pounds of ground pork at its distribution warehouse.

After the holidays pass, food pantries need all the help they can get. This donation of meat will be distributed to the food bank's member agencies and will serve eight counties in northwest Ohio.

The Ohio Pork Producers Council says Ohio hog farmers have been actively involved in the fight against hunger for years. Those receiving the produce could not be more thankful.

"It's a local product. It's gonna be a product that's higher in nutritional value, as like protein. So, we cannot just put foods in the hands of people that need it, but foods that are going to help them stay nourished," said Barbara Grandowicz, director of operations.

Since 2009, the Ohio Pork Producers Council has donated more than 750,000 meals to Ohio food banks.
