Lucas County unemployment jumps to 9.6%, Toledo to 10.3%

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Lucas County's unemployment rated increased to 9.6 percent in January, up from 7.6 percent in December of last year. In the city of Toledo unemployment shot up to 10.3 percent, an increase of more than 2 percentage points from the 8.2 percent the city saw in December 2012.

Nearly all Ohio counties saw an increase in unemployment rate in January as seasonal jobs disappeared. 

Unemployment in Lucas County and the city of Toledo has crept up in the last year. In January of 2012 Lucas County had an unemployment rate of 9.4 percent, and Toledo sat at 10 percent.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services estimates there are 188,400 employed Lucas County residents, with 20,100 still looking for work.  In Toledo, the department says 117,000 people are working with 13,400 out of work.
