New TSA regulations affecting flights out of Toledo Express

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) wants to better align its regulations with the International Civil Aviation Organization standards. Effective April 25, 2013, TSA will allow certain knives onboard airplanes.

Officials say the following knives are permitted: "knives that do not lock, and have blades that are 2.36 inches or 6 centimeters or less in length and are less than 1/2 inch in width."

In addition, novelty-sized and toy bats, billiard cues, ski poles, hockey sticks, lacrosse
sticks and two golf clubs will be allowed as part of carry-on baggage.

The new regulations are part of an overall Risk-Based Security approach, which allows Transportation Security Officers to better focus their efforts on finding higher threat items
such as explosives.

Amanda St. Hilaire is live from Toledo Express on 'Your Morning,' breaking down the changes.

For travelers uncertain about what is prohibited, the TSA has a "prohibited items" section on its website, allowing travelers to check whatever item they're considering bringing to see if it is allowed. The information is also available through the TSA's My App.
