Hancock County Red Cross looking for disaster volunteers to train

HANCOCK COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

TheHancock County Red Cross is looking for volunteers to train to aid victims indisaster situations.

Atraining session will be held this weekend for volunteers to learn how to run aRed Cross shelter. It will be the second time the Hancock County Red Crossoffers shelter operation simulations this year.

Thegoal is to get volunteers trained as quickly as possible so that if anemergency arises, they have a large, qualified pool of volunteers ready to getto work. There are currently 50 trained disaster volunteers in Hancock County.

"Wecount on trained volunteers to be there 24 hours a day, ready to help when adisaster happens," said Executive Director Todd James. "So the more volunteerswe can get trained and ready to respond, the safer our communities are."

Lastyear, more than a dozen volunteers deployed to help in Superstorm Sandy.

Theclasses are free, and open to anyone who registers beforehand. They will beheld Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Findlay Red Cross.
