ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

A suspect has been arrested after a standoff with Michigan police in Adrian back at the end of February.

Shawn Gauss, 37, of Adrian, MI, was taken into custody after being medically cleared.

Gauss faces arraignment on six felony counts, including:

  • 2 counts - Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • 1 count - Malicious destruction of police property
  • 1 count - Weapons - Dangerous weapon- Carrying with unlawful intent
  • 1 count - Weapons - Firearms- Discharge in or at building
  • 1 count - Weapons - Felony firearm

The charges stem from shots fired while officers attempted to negotiate with Gauss during a standoff Feb. 23. Officers were initially called to the residence in the 100 block of Renfrew Avenue to check the welfare of Gauss, who had been reported as suicidal.

Gauss fired several rounds inside his residence while responding officers were inside the house trying to negotiate his surrender. Gauss then fired several more rounds, destroying a Michigan State Police robot that had been deployed into the house by the State Police Emergency Services Team.

Gauss was initially transported to an area hospital following the incident.

No one was injured during the standoff and none of the rounds fired by Gauss exited the residence.

Gauss is expected to be arraigned in an Adrian district court Monday.
