PRO Home Improvement and Garden Show starts Friday

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Professional Remodeler's Organization Home Improvement and Garden Show is happening this weekend at the SeaGate Centre in downtown Toledo.

More than 200 local businesses from northwest Ohio and southwest Michigan will be available throughout the event.

Tom Elder, a contractor for 30 years, believes the economy is improving and the industry is seeing it first hand.

"The signs are that it's gonna get a lot better," said Elder, with Seagate Roofing and Waterproofing. "We're getting a lot of calls. We're getting a lot of work right now, so my sense is that '13 is gonna be a good year and hopefully it'll be good for all of the guys here."

Elder says when it comes to home improvements, it's better to do it sooner than later as costs continue to rise.

"Many of our products are related to oil and the oil keeps going up, so the price of products, particularly roofing, keeps going up. So it's better to do it now because it's only going to keep getting more expensive down the road. And, the quality of the products we have today are so good, that you can buy a roof today and never buy another roof," explained Elder.

At the 45th annual event this year, you can enter to win a $3,700 patio collection.

If you are a thrillseeker, you'll want to check out the full-motion Nascar racing simulator.

Maybe you have some items in your house of which you'd like to know the value. On Saturday, the antique appraisers will be on hand to see if your items have any value.

"They were here last year and they uncovered a treasure. A woman brought in a picture that she had purchased at a garage sale and found out it was worth over $30,000. So, you know, people that may think they have that hidden treasure may want to come down and talk to our guy tomorrow 11 to 4," said Rick Morel, PRO's executive director.

This year's show will take place:

-Friday March 8 from 4-9 p.m.

-Saturday March 9 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

-Sunday March 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tickets are $6 for adults. Tickets for senior citizens ages 60 and older are $5. Children age 12 and younger are free.
