Foreclosures down, new car sales up in Lucas County

(Toledo News Now) -

A couple of economic indicators are pointing to the local economy making slow, but steady, improvement, as foreclosures are down and new car sales are up in Lucas County.

Information provided by the Lucas County Clerk of Courts shows there were 388 foreclosure filings during the first two months of 2013, compared to 475 foreclosures in January and February of 2012, which is an 18 percent decrease. Also, 3,682 new cars were sold in January and February of 2013, compared to 3,308 during the same time period last year, which was an 11 percent increase.

Commissioner Tina Skeldon-Wozniak calls them encouraging signs.

"That was such a deep recession, but we're so pleased some of the economic indicators show the improvement is ongoing, but we need it to be ongoing so that nobody loses their home," said Skeldon-Wozniak.

Skeldon-Wozniak says considering there have been 388 foreclosures this year, there is still plenty of work to do to link struggling home owners with resources to keep them in their homes.
