PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It has been almost five months since the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo was forced to close its doors. Reconstruction of the facility is almost complete.

The center looks fresh, bright, and crews are almost ready to put on the finishing touches.

"[It will] be like going home again, being back home. We're very excited. Everybody's anxious to come back. We feel very disconnected and disjointed," said Cherrefe Kadri, president of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo.

After months of keeping doors closed for renovations, the center is almost ready to welcome home the community. The paint is fresh, the classrooms are full of new supplies, but one thing is missing: the people.

"We're ordinarily a very active community, where we have dinners and other programs during the week, throughout the year, and obviously for the past five months, we haven't been able to do that," explained Kadri.

The renovations are about 85 percent complete, but carpeting and lighting are still needed. Kadri says the whole community is anxious to have the center up and running. Some center programs have relocated to colleges and high schools in the area.

"Obviously we also have a full-time school that's been out at the Owens campus in Maumee, so the children are very anxious to get back to their classrooms too," said Kadri.

Randy Linn, the man responsible for the damage to the center, is currently trying to withdraw his guilty plea.

Kadri says they hope to open doors to the community by the end of March.
