Multimillion dollar senior housing facility opens in north Toledo

A dedication ceremony was held Wednesday showcasing the new, affordable, senior housing community in north Toledo. It is a project United North hopes will help bring new life into the neighborhood.

Cranes Landing is located on Mayo Street at the former Chase Elementary School. The new $7 million facility will house about 40 families. So far, 20 percent of the units have been leased. Seniors ages 55 and over can live in either a one or two-bedroom unit. The building features a community room and library.

The facility is part of United North's multimillion dollar revitalization efforts in the Chase "New Schools New Neighborhoods" project, making this one of many changes expected to come to the neighborhood.

"This is the beauty of what's happening to this neighborhood: there's more to come. The Metro Parks are talking about adopting the Manhattan Marsh behind this property, and this year the city of Toledo is building a brand new fire station. So, development continues, and we're talking about building a new home in our subdivision. We'll continue to work in this neighborhood, but, I think we're starting to turn the corner," said Terry Glazer, United North CEO.

This tax credit project was developed by United North in partnership with the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, as well as the city of Toledo.
