Delays this tax season don’t include filing deadline

(Toledo News Now) -

This tax season, things are moving a little slower than most people waiting on returns would like. Local tax preparers said a hold up from the IRS delayed their ability to even e-file.

The preparers said the Fiscal Cliff slowed down the arrival of paperwork that is essential to filers, forcing some to hold off on filing or file without the necessary paperwork and make amendments later.

But even though this season has been plagued with delay on the federal and state levels, tax preparers said the IRS isn't giving filers a break.

"The bottom line is, it's still April 15," said Jan Fieweger, with Liberty Tax. "You have to file by April 15, even if you don't have all your forms yet, or there's been a delay at the federal level."

The late start will continue to affect those waiting on their refund. Normally, people can expect a refund in 8-10 days, but this year the IRS is forecasting a 21-day wait.
