United Way braces for possible spending cuts

(Toledo News Now) -

States all over the country are bracing themselves for the possible cuts in spending, including the Buckeye State. That has some local organizations, like the United Way, trying to figure out ways to keep helping communities, should these cuts take effect.

Representatives at the United Way say they are on pins and needles waiting to see what will happen with the sequester. The United Way's main focus is around education, income and health. The threat of the sequester would affect those areas.

"Organizations, educational systems across the area need to now get prepared for what could happen, and then figure out how we reach out, how we use the resources that we still have here locally, to make sure that families and children have access to services," said Karen Matheson.

Reps with United Way say things are already tight in Ohio. They hope Congress can come to an agreement before the March 1 deadline, so nobody has to suffer any more.
