WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A highly-traveled interchange in Wood County could soon get a major overhaul.

Ohio Department of Transportation officials say the main goal at Interstate 475 and state Route 25 is to improve safety. They say the way this interchange is currently designed, there are too many opportunities for accidents and traffic delays.

Many drivers call the interchange dangerous during the morning commute, causing backed up traffic.

As for the accidents, drivers say they have seen a lot of near misses. So ODOT representatives have been meeting with Perrysburg City Council members to try and create a solution. No plans or designs have been finalized yet, but one option City Council members are supporting is called a "divergent diamond."

However, drivers in the area are not sold on it and say it seems too confusing.

While some have doubts about that specific plan, many still want to see some change, saying if a design is expected to reduce congestion and crashes they would be for it.

Before any changes can take place, ODOT still has to secure funding and decide on a final design.
