OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Oregon school board met Tuesday for the first time after Board President PJ Kapfhammer was charged with two misdemeanors.

Many community members were present at the meeting, most in support of Kapfhammer, and upset that the ordeal has come so far.

About two weeks ago, Kapfhammer confronted a man with autism at the Clay High School weight room. Kapfhammer said he did not know the man was an honorary manager of the baseball team, so he approached him and asked who he was.

The young man's mother said witnesses told her the confrontation became vulgar, and she wants justice for her son.

Kapfhammer has since been charged with disorderly conduct and menacing, but many of those who spoke out at the meeting said they've known Kapfhammer for years, and don't believe he would ever intentionally hurt a person with developmental disabilities, and they believe he did the right thing.

"Someone's back in your office…they're not allowed there," said resident Joe Gray. "Now everyone that [questions them] gets charges pressed on them?"

Kapfhammer also made a short statement at the meeting. He said this has been the hardest two weeks of his life and he is sorry for all the pain he has caused.
