Street crews on pothole patrol

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The City of Toledo's street crews are currently busy on pothole patrol, as the recent temperature changes and precipitation have created conditions for potholes to form on city streets.

"We're going to see that in the next month or so, because we've had that freeze cycle," explained Toledo Streets Commissioner David Pratt. "And then it thaws out and we had more rain, which allows moisture to get underneath the pavement and create more potholes."

Pratt said because of an aggressive crack-sealing program over the past two years, the city had fewer potholes in 2012 - around 51,000 - with a typical year being around 60,000.

Pratt is also asking everyone to help be their eyes on the roads, and report all potholes to the city hotline, 419-936-BUMP.
