Oregon sewer project continues; expect road closures

OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A sanitary sewer rehabilitation project is beginning in Oregon. It's part of a bigger project  that began in the summer of 2012.

There will be road closures on Wheeling Street between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013. This phase of the work is expected to take 4-6 weeks.

The city says the goal is to prevent flooding of the sanitary sewer system during heavy rain.

This new work being done is the second phase of the plan. It involves lining the existing sanitary sewers and manholes.

Existing sewers were built in 1928, so city officials say it is time for an upgrade. The $2.3 million project is being paid for with a grant and low-interest loan.

Workers will be using fire hydrants, so water discoloration is possible in the area of the construction.

Entrance drives to homes and businesses will remain open.
