Blissfield Schools perform well on MEAP exam

BLISSFIELD, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The numbers are out and Michigan school districts are reviewing how their students scored on the fall Michigan Educational Assessment Program test.

Superintendent Scott Moellenberndt of Blissfield Schools says he is especially pleased with how the third through sixth-grade students performed. They scored higher than both county and state averages. However, those scores are just a portion of what Moellenberndt says the district is considering when moving forward.

District officials will look at all scores, breaking them down by grade, subject and even teacher. It is what districts use to make sure they are meeting state requirements. It is just one way to monitor annual progress and look at specific areas that may need improvement.

Moellenberndt says the exam is important to the district, but believes there is much more that needs to be considered when evaluating the quality of a district.

"I think it's one of the many factors that should be looked at in assessing a quality education for kids: a safe and secure environment, the ability to participate not only in, but outside the classroom," said Moellenberndt.
