MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ohio Gov. John Kasich met with small business owners in Maumee Wednesday to tout his budget plan to grow the economy through tax cuts.

Brian Reis, president and CEO of Ballreich's Potato Chips based in Tiffin, says a tax cut would have a big ripple effect on his business.

"It's very important to someone like us. We're literally investing every dollar we have into a machine, into a person, into a piece of equipment, into a new route," explained Reis.

Mike McClear, president and CEO of Service Spring Corp., says cutting taxes will help employers to hire more people.

"My plant manager keeps telling me, ‘I need more people, I need more people.' That's a good problem to have. So yes, we are looking at additional additions," said McClear.

Kasich estimates a 50 percent cut on the first $750,000 of earnings for small business owners will free up $1.9 billion over the next three years.

"To be able to drive more economic growth through the growth of small businesses is what it's all about," said Kasich.

Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken calls the governor's budget plan an elaborate shell game because his budget includes new taxes on services provided by lawyers, accountants, architects and other professionals.

"We have a concentration here of architectural firms, of lawyers, of engineers, of professional service people. I am concerned if those services that people need here costs more, that'll get transferred to the consumer," said Gerken.

Kasich is not worried about that criticism.

"As we get more economic growth, even those in the service industry are going to have more business. That's what it's all about. If you don't grow, you die," said Kasich.
