Museum, Alzheimer's group team up for art appreciation program

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo Museum of Art teamed up with the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association Saturday for "Meet me at T-M-A".

The programs are for people who are in the early stages of memory loss.

Once a month a docent at the museum teaches the group about a particular painting, painting style, or painter.

The program is now in its fourth year.

Lynn Ritter, of the Alzheimer's Association says the event is an important one for the community.

"People very much enjoy coming to the museum, still remaining part of a vital community, developing social connections that maybe they didn't have before, getting tips from other caregivers," said Ms. Ritter.

The museum and the Alzheimer's Association also have a hands-on event called a Brush with Art. The next Brush with Art event is February 8.

For more information on the programs, call the Alzheimer's Association at 419-537-1999.
