Chrysler success felt in Wood County

WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Just three years ago, Chrysler was bankrupt, living on taxpayer loans, and plants such as the one in Perrysburg Township were in danger of closing.

Now Chrysler has announced their profits and progress have reached far ahead. The auto company reported $1.7 billion in earnings in 2012, and said they expect the momentum to bring them to $2.2 billion this year.

Chrysler said their workers and improved products have been a driving force behind their success.

This success has been shared by Wood County and all of northwest Ohio.

"We weren't sure who in the auto industry was going to survive and who was going to go away," said Wade Gottschalk, of the Wood County Economic Development. "So we're very thankful that Chrysler not only is thriving today, but that they have also made a commitment to Wood County over the long term."

Last year Chrysler sold 2.4 million cars – surpassing CEO Sergio Marchionne's goal of 2.3 million.
