Hit-and-run driver strikes utility pole in East Toledo

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) –  A driver slammed into a pole in East Toledo early Sunday morning, causing wires to come down.

Toledo Police say the driver collided with a pole at the intersection of Starr and Spring Grove Avenue, then took off.

The accident happened around 3:30 a.m.

Emergency crews cleared the debris.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been released.

It's unknown at this time if police located the driver.

    The Toledo Area Sanitary District on Thursday said West Nile Virus activity in the mosquito population is appearing in our area in an "unusual" amount this early in the season. In response, the district is adjusting its focus to combat the sources of the mosquitoes that carry the virus.
