Police search for armed suspect in pizza delivery robberies

Toledo Police are searching for the suspect - or suspects - involved in two recent robberies of pizza delivery drivers.
Both robberies occurred in the same neighborhood.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo Police are searching for the suspect - or suspects - involved in two recent robberies of pizza delivery drivers.

Both robberies occurred on Van Buren Avenue in east Toledo last week. Police said whoever is responsible first phoned in a pizza order to a random house, then hid nearby, armed, and waited for the target to show up.

"I saw the pizza man's reaction before I saw the gunman, or knew what was going on," explained a witness that wanted to remain anonymous. "And when I saw the pizza man run, the look on his face, it was like he had seen a ghost or something."

The witness said the suspect was wearing a mask.

Police said once the pizza deliverer is turned away from the home, the suspect pointed their gun and stole the driver's car.

"It just makes me aware, makes me take extra precautions," said Michael Tolson, who lives in the neighborhood. "'Cause if somebody is that desperate and it's that close to home, it's hard telling what could happen."

Police said the stolen cars were dumped nearby. They have not made any arrests of potential suspects yet.
