Events held Friday to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

(TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - Several events are being held in northwest Ohio Friday to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Toledo

Toledo Mayor Mike Bell and University of Toledo President Dr. Lloyd Jacobs will hold a joint press conference Friday to preview the 2013 Unity Celebration.  The two city leaders will  encourage the community to come out and show support for the event. Also discussed will be food donations to be collected for the Martin Luther King Jr. Kitchen for the Poor.

This will be the 12th year for the Unity Celebration. It takes place Monday at the University of Toledo in Savage Arena.

Wood County Library

The Wood County District public library in Bowling Green will hold a tribute to honor Dr. King. The featured speaker is Jack Taylor who is retired from Bowling Green State University. The musical group Shades of Brown will perform.

It will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the library, which is located at 251 North Main Street. The event is free.

Bowling Green State University

The Bowling Green State University College Democrats will co-host the second annual Martin Luther King Jr Day Food Drive. Starting Friday, the students will begin building a fortress of non-perishable food items on the table tops in the Bowling Green coffee shop. The group will be accepting donations through the weekend.
