Napoleon schools consider an income tax

NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo NewsNow) – The Napoleon school district is planning to put an earned income tax on aballot for voters sometime in the future.

The district is looking ata 0.5 percent earned income tax, which is expected to raise over a milliondollars for the school if approved. Superintendent Stephen Fogo said that moneyis needed to prevent severe cuts.

"That's where 80 percentof our money goes is [for] people," he said. "There's really no way to makecuts without effecting people somehow, so unfortunately, yes, that would meanteacher layoffs."

The idea of the levy isstill in review, but the money it could potentially generate would be usedsolely for school operating costs.

Fogo said the plan to moveforward with the  new elementary schoolbuilding will be unaffected.
