Local Red Cross chapters travel to East Coast to assist hurricane prep

(Toledo News Now) – As residents hunker down along the East Coast, Red Cross officials are on the ground preparing for the worst, including the executive director of the Wyandot and Hancock County Red Cross chapters.

Todd James and his team are focused on getting the word out to people in Atlantic City, NJ to make sure they are prepared.

This is the first time James has been deployed to assist during a hurricane. He is one of several thousand volunteers assisting with disaster relief across the East Coast. He says many people in Atlantic City are following evacuation orders, while others are bracing for the worst.

Still, James says the sights and sounds of the massive storm are just amazing.

"It's getting very nasty. The storm is coming in full force, a lot of flooding here in Atlantic City here where I am really. All the roads around us are flooded," said James, executive director of Hancock and Wyandot Red Cross.

James says he will remain in Atlantic City for at least the next few days.
