Authorities seek tips in 2010 Lenawee Co. home invasion

MEDINA TOWNSHIP, MI (Toledo News Now) - Officials have uncovered stolen property from a violent home invasion in Lenawee County. On Oct. 27, 2010, a family woke up to three masked men armed with a handgun, who forced their way into their home around 11 p.m.

"It's hard to know that they're still out there and we don't have finality and resolution to things," said the mother. "They broke in the door, came in our bedroom, proceeded to tie us up, bound us as they took us around our house finding property."

The men sexually assaulted the woman in her 30s before leaving, and used zip ties to bind her ankles, her husband, who is also in his 30s, and their two young children ages 5 and 8.

The suspects are described as having average height with a medium build. No other information is available at this time.

The suspects were in the home for about one hour. After they left, one of the children was able to free himself and subsequently freed the rest of the family. The father called 911 at 12:03 a.m.

Cash, tools, electronics, firearms, even the family's pickup truck were all taken. The truck was found burned a few hours later.

After that, officials did not have much to use until now.

"Recently we recovered some stolen property from the house in Ohio," said Sheriff Jack Welsh.

Authorities are not releasing what that property was, but say they found it in Paulding County. Investigators are speaking with the people who had the property.

"Usually on cases like this that's often how we solve them: Somebody saw some property some place and we're able to tie it to somebody," explained Welsh.

"We have come to a place of forgiving them, but we still want justice. We do feel that nobody should get away with what they did to our family," said the woman.

Investigators are following several leads but are asking for the public's help. Anyone with information about this case can call Lenawee County CrimeStoppers at 877-276-8477.
