CPR helps save sister’s life

CYGNET, OH (Toledo News Now) - Last month seven year old Mallory Miller went to the Cygnet Fire Department to learn CPR and the Heimlich maneuver.

The very next day what she was taught saved the life of her sister Emily, who has Cerebral Palsy.

Miller vividly remembers what happened.

"I did the Heimlich maneuver. Put her on my lap and did it. She puked all over my arm. There was gum in her mouth," said Miller.

Firefighters in Cygnet say more kids like Mallory are coming to classes to learn life-saving techniques.

"One important thing is they shouldn't think that they're too little to help out and she proved it," said Luke Swartz of the Cygnet Fire Department.

Mallory's parents said because Emily has Cerebral Palsy, she easily chokes.

"Just be prepared because you never know when you're going to need it. I cannot imagine what our lives would be like had we not did that," said Lindsey Miller, Mallory's mother.

"She's my sister. I feel good I helped her out," said Mallory Miller.

Mallory will be recognized by the Cygnet Fire Department and receive a plaque for her heroic efforts.
